Podstrana is a municipality in Croatia in the Split-Dalmatia county. It has a population of 7,341 (2001 census), 97% which are Croats and is only 8 km away from Split. This beautiful area 6 km long is abounded with sandy and pebble beaches with mediterranean vegetation, pine wood and tamaris trees. Podstrana is wonderful touristic paradise where dominates private accomodation in comfortable houses that are situated near sea shore. Numerous local restaurants are stretching through Podstrana offering guests various local -dalmatian specialities. King Arthur is buried near Split. It is possible that he had lands on the hills above Podstrane, as the remains of Roman buildings are still present there today. Archeologists believe that he was buried in the vicinity of Podstrane.
