Several years ago at INHOLLAND University, Heinz-Gerd Roes introduced the pop venue game into the leisure management curriculum. Future theme park managers and sports managers each ran a pop music venue for 10 weeks, and were responsible for the same tasks as a pop venue manager, including: − Naming the venue − Determining the type of music − Setting ticket prices − Marketing − Ordering drinks Students were essentially working for their musical idols, which kept them engaged by making failure more personal. Student attendance is usually around 50% but during he pop venue game, it felt like it had reached 120%. Recently, The Press in Holland reported that the pop venues in Amsterdam were poorly run. Heinz believes his pop venue game graduates will help put them back on the path to success.
